What does the fight for food equity take?
Food
Community Hunger Solutions accepts food donations large and small. We can even provide a volunteer crew to come out to your farm, orchard, or home garden to help harvest!
Contact us if you're interested in donating fresh food to CHS. CHS is a program of Vernon Economic Development Association, a registered 501(c).3 nonprofit, so the value of your donation is 100% tax deductible! Or, CHS can offer a food that we have in abundance in exchange for food delivered to our Viroqua facility.

Foods that are always in demand:
tomatoes
beans
fruits
ripe peppers (hot and sweet)
broccoli and cauliflower

Food that we usually have in abundance (in season):
salad greens
summer squash
green peppers
melons
winter squash
sweet potato
storage roots (carrots, potatoes, turnips, rutabaga, radish)
Time
Community Hunger Solutions relies on volunteer support from people like you! In 2020, even with a gap during the months of March and April, CHS operations included about 1,200 hours of volunteer labor!!
We want to continue growing that number. In exchange for your time, CHS offers a variety of organic produce (and sometimes dairy) for each shift worked.

Volunteer shifts are typically 2-3 hours long two to four times per month. CHS can also accommodate your group for occasional shifts (once per season, for example). Volunteer duties include gleaning, sorting, filling orders, and general warehouse labor.

You can find our volunteer shift schedule here.
For more information, contact us! Someone will be in touch to get you signed up!
Money
Community Hunger Solutions distributes the highest quality, freshest local, organic produce and dairy on a budget of only about $0.25 per pound/pint distributed. Each dollar you donate allows CHS to provide the equivalent of two dozen eggs or four pounds of organic produce to a community member who lacks access!

$25 connects 100# of local produce with community members who lack access

$100 covers all delivery related costs for one week

$250 is equal to the purchase of a full pallet of sweet potatoes!

$1,000 covers general operating costs for a month!
